Southern Sunsets

Southern Sunsets

India has been described as one of the most cinematic countries in the world; a potpourri of color and a rich kaleidoscope of diversity. This week I took my inspiration from Southern India. Its warmth and the opulent color of the landscapes and people inspired this bronzed sunset look.

Dusky Eyes

Sunset inspired eyes are a staple in makeup. To create this soft sunset eye, I blend BLK OPL’s color splurge eyeshadow duo in Mimosa Pop (orange) in the crease to give the eyes both a transition color and warmth. Next I use BLK OPL’s eyeshadow in Gilty Gold on the inner and middle thirds of the lid and blend it into a gilded orange from BLK OPL called Brazen bronze. This combination of gold and orange gives the impression of the sun as it descends during twilight.

To complete the eyes I go in with BLK OPL’s eyeshadow in Midnight deep blue, placing this dark hued blue in the outer-V of the crease and blending it to create a soft gradient effect. With same deep blue I apply it to the lower lid and smoke it out to give added intensity to the eyes.

Sun-kissed Skin

To achieve a bronzed goddess look, I contour and highlight the model’s skin and features using BLK OPL’s Tru Color foundation stick. I use the shad Truly Topaz on her cheekbones, nose-bridge and forehead to create a highlight. Then I blend Suede Mocha into her contour areas (such as the sides of the forehead, sides of the nose, hollows of the cheek, jawline and chin) to give a “touched by the sun” effect. To add that extra healthy glow I bronze her skin with the Color splurge baked blush powder in the shade ginger. This gives the model a flushed “glow from within” effect.

Her Lips drip of Honey

When one works with color on the eyes, I always advise that the drama of the eyes be balanced with softness and neutrality in the lips.

Lip-liner is a super important step that is often over-looked. Lip liner, defines the lip and it prevents colors from bleeding outside the lip-line.  Here I define the model’s lip using the Color Splurge Precision Lip Definer pencil in the shade Timber. I then fill in her lips using the Color Splurge Luxe Crème Lipstick in Burnished Bronze and since the model’s lips are on the smaller side I add a bit of the Color Splurge Lustre gloss in the shade Sinseer to give her the illusion of a plumper pout.

This completes our Southern Indian inspired look. It’s not the popular Bollywood look that we’ve all come to know but it shows a different side of India that is equally as beautiful and even more serene.

With BLK OPL cosmetics not only can you enhance any complexion but you can create any look that you can dream of!
